Funding Priorities

The Sandia Foundation's efforts are concentrated on partnering with Albuquerque non-profits that work with children, focusing on:

  • Children's basic needs
  • Educational advancement through long-term, consistent intervention and support

The Foundation historically supported programme areas including arts and culture, environmental and historic preservation, health, and human services.

Preference is given to organisations with operating budgets under $1 million.

What They Don't Fund

  • Organisations outside the city of Albuquerque
  • Projects that discriminate based on race, ethnicity, religion, national origin, age, military veteran's status, ancestry, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, family structure, or genetic information
  • Religious programmes (though faith-based organisations may be funded if funds are used for non-religious programmes that provide equal access regardless of religious affiliation)

Application Process & Timeline

The Request for Proposals opens in late July and closes in late August each year. The Sandia Foundation engages the Albuquerque Community Foundation to administer its annual grant award programme. The Foundation's Trustees review and recommend grant recipients whilst Albuquerque Community Foundation performs due diligence.

Organisations must directly benefit Albuquerque residents. Whilst organisations with operating budgets of all sizes are eligible to apply, preference is given to organisations with operating budgets of less than $1 million.
