York Music Hub

Key takeaways

  • York Music Hub's giving reaches young people through bursaries for lessons with its Approved Tutors, paid directly to the tutor, so it fits best where a project aims to help children and young people in York take up music lessons.
  • Its stated area is the City of York and surrounding area, and its bursaries go only to young people who live and/or attend a state school in York and learn with a York Music Hub Approved Tutor, so anyone outside those terms should not apply.
  • The annual report gives no grants figure or grant range; the only stated amount is up to £900 for a Merchant Taylors Music Bursary Award, which goes to five young musicians, and Tuition Bursaries are limited in number, so keep any request modest and specific and expect competition.
  • No application process is published in the annual report, its register entry or its website, so contact the shown contact first before preparing a formal application.

What they fund

Priority Areas

York Music Hub supports children and young people in York to access high-quality, diverse music education and make music in and beyond school. It works through an inclusive partnership of music-education providers, supporting, commissioning, enabling and showcasing partners’ work, and working with schools to strengthen music provision. Its offer includes instrumental and vocal tuition, instruments, school resources and wider musical opportunities. Its Bursary Schemes support young people whose financial circumstances create barriers to music education and who cannot access help elsewhere, with tuition bursaries contributing to lesson costs through approved tutors. The Hub also works with partners to provide free access to music education opportunities for children and young people who would otherwise face barriers to progressing their music-making. Its stated area of benefit is York and surrounding area.
