Good Things Foundation
At a glance
Key takeaways
- Its grant opportunities are open to members of the National Digital Inclusion Network, so a community organisation working on digital skills or English language learning should first check whether it can join.
- Charities, community interest companies, social enterprises, community benefit societies and cooperatives are named as eligible, and unincorporated associations can join if they can explain their management and constitution.
- The listed application windows for the current rounds run from April to June, and the Activation Grant asks for a plan of no more than 500 words, a completed supporting information document and your registered number.
- No grant range or typical grant size is published, so ask the Foundation what a suitable request would be before you set an amount.
- Hubs that joined the network before the Activation Grant round's cut-off, that have already received Foundation funding, or that were actively using Learn My Way or the National Databank when they joined cannot apply to that round, so check these terms first.
Overview
Good Things Foundation is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1165209).
Good Things Foundation exists to ensure that everyone can participate in a digital society now and in the future. Its strategy addresses the main barriers to digital inclusion through the National Databank, which provides free mobile data, the National Device Bank, which refurbishes donations of used tech, and the National Digital Inclusion Network, which is made up of thousands of community-based hubs. Since the start of its strategy in April, it has provided £6.2m in grants to Digital Inclusion Hubs, including £1.1m in the current year.
What they fund
Priority Areas
Good Things Foundation provides grants to community organisations and centres for grassroots activities, including basic digital skills support, English language learning and other sessions. It also uses grants to help Digital Inclusion Hubs build capacity to deliver more digital inclusion support. Its grant opportunities are available to members of the National Digital Inclusion Network, a network of community organisations tackling digital exclusion in local communities. Those hubs provide local support to people in their communities, helping them gain digital skills and access digital services. The Foundation’s approach centres on community organisations and grassroots activity, with Network membership connecting local hubs to digital inclusion services, training and other resources.
