Overview
Gift Foundation, also known as Gift of Knowledge, was established in 2011 under a trust deed dated 18 June 2011. The charity provides scholarships and comprehensive support to male and female students pursuing Islamic education, including undergraduate and PhD research degrees. With an income of £275,800 and expenditure of £380,453 in 2024, the foundation focuses on prevention, development, and restoration to help communities prosper through education, mentorship, support, and essential resources.
The charity's vision is “to see a world where everyone is given an opportunity to learn and grow,” with a mission to help individuals fulfill their “spiritual, intellectual, psychological, social and faith potential.” To date, the foundation has supported over 75 Shari'ah and PhD scholarship recipients globally, plus 150+ educational scholarships worldwide and 1,000+ scholarships for orphans and children in Bangladesh and Ghana. Following the passing of co-founder Sheikh Fahimul Anam in January 2025, Dr Hamida Begum was unanimously appointed Chair of Trustees in September 2025, having previously served as Interim Chair.

Application Success Factors
What the Foundation Values
"The best among you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it" - This hadith from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ guides the foundation's mission.
Gift Foundation emphasizes they do more than provide financial aid - they offer comprehensive support to help students succeed “academically, professionally, and personally.” This holistic approach suggests they seek candidates who:
- Demonstrate Community Impact Potential: The foundation aims to develop scholars who will “help and guide the community” through teaching, dawah work, leading prayers, and inspiring youth
- Show Long-Term Commitment: The foundation has supported students pursuing “long-term study of Islamic sciences in Arabic medium” for the past 5 years, indicating they value candidates committed to deep, sustained scholarship
- Bridge Tradition and Contemporary Context: For PhD scholarships, they specifically seek research that will “advance communities intellectually and present Islam in the context of society in the West”
- Exhibit Academic Excellence: The PhD Research Scholarship explicitly aims to support “the brightest and best in our community”
- Balance Scholarship with Service: Assessment criteria explicitly include “commitment to the wider community,” not just academic ability
Recent Focus Areas
Following Sheikh Fahimul Anam's passing in January 2025, the foundation continues under new leadership while maintaining its core mission. Recent awards included grants to scholars transitioning to Al-Azhar University in Egypt, “enabling them to pursue their academic ambitions with confidence and dignity.”
Foundation's Comprehensive Support Model
The foundation provides:
- Financial assistance
- Structured learning programs
- Mentoring throughout the journey
- Internship and professional development support
- Academic guidance and support
This suggests they seek candidates who will actively engage with the full support ecosystem, not just accept funding.
