Bradford Trident
At a glance
Key takeaways
- Bradford Trident's small grant scheme, run through its Community Council, suits local community and voluntary groups seeking up to £500 for a group activity or event with community benefit.
- Groups within the Community Council area are the stated focus, and groups from outside can apply only if they can show direct benefit to residents, so check that link before you apply.
- Applications must be for work not yet completed, and an organisation can receive funding no more than once a year.
- A panel scores shortlisted proposals on merit, financial stability and sustainability, and groups are expected to contribute their own funds or other funding; the charity states that 82.5% of requests (99 of 120) were funded in the first round, which is a share of requests, not of grants.
- No application process is published, so contact the number or address shown first to confirm the form and timing.
Overview
Bradford Trident is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1107561).
Bradford Trident Limited exists to promote, for the benefit of the public, a regeneration programme within and around BD5. It grew out of a New Deal for Communities initiative and aims to engage people and families to develop skills and enterprise, improve health and wellbeing, enhance the environment and celebrate the community. It gave £20,000 to its Community Council to support the council's operation and community activities, of which £10,000 funds small grants to local community and voluntary groups.
What they fund
Priority Areas
Bradford Trident describes itself as the community anchor for Little Horton and Southern Bradford. Its mission is to help people and families develop skills and enterprise, improve health and wellbeing, enhance the environment and celebrate the community; it does this through community assets, centres, services and partnerships. Its grant-making includes funding the local urban parish council, which administers small-grant awards for local community and voluntary groups. The published small-grant guidance describes support for group activities or events bringing community benefit. It sets out round-specific interests in older people’s activities, environmental initiatives, education and young people’s issues, and engaging new communities. The guidance also expects projects to be sustainable and groups to contribute some of their own funds or other funding.

Application success factors
What the charity says:
- Applications are assessed on merit, the group’s financial stability and whether it can be sustainable without funding.
- Groups are expected to contribute their own funds or other funding to the project.
- Where outside partnership funding is being sought, the council wants it secured before awarding a grant.
- Funded groups submit a monitoring report and photos showing how many people from BD5 benefited after project completion.
- Shortlisted proposals are presented to a panel, which scores applicants to decide which proposals are funded.
