Funding Priorities
Woods Charitable Fund seeks to strengthen the community by improving opportunities and life outcomes for all people in Lincoln, Nebraska. Primary funding areas include:
- Human Services: Strengthening families and providing opportunities for youth, including childcare, behavioural and mental health, youth development, the elderly, family planning, shelter and basic needs, and reentry support
- Civic & Community: Empowering those with fewer advantages to participate in the economic system, fostering community participation and responsibility, and affordable housing initiatives
- Education: Supporting existing educational institutions and creative new programmes
- Arts & Culture: Supporting arts and cultural programmes in Lincoln
- New Americans/Immigrants: Special consideration for programmes supporting refugee and immigrant integration, English language education, community acceptance, and research on immigrants in Lincoln
What They Don't Fund
- Organisations that have had proposals declined in the preceding 12 months
- Organisations that are current recipients of multiyear grants (except in collaborative proposals)
- Generally limited to organisations described in Section 501(c)(3) with IRS rulings under Section 509(a)(1), (2), or (3)
- First-time applicants limited to maximum $10,000 request
- Technology requests must be from organisations in the Fund's special interest areas with demonstrated need and cost-effectiveness
Application Process & Timeline
Woods Charitable Fund operates a two-stage application process with two grant cycles per year:

Letter of Intent (LOI): Organisations must first submit a Letter of Intent. Only those invited by staff after LOI review may submit a full application.

Grant Cycles:
- Spring Cycle: LOIs due 15 February, full proposals due 28 February, decisions announced in May
- Autumn Cycle: LOIs due 15 August, full proposals due 31 August, decisions announced in November

Emergency Funding: In cases of extreme emergency, the Fund will consider interim proposals up to $10,000 outside standard cycles.
All applications must be submitted using a link issued by the Woods Charitable Fund office.
