Tools For Self Reliance Cymru
Key takeaways
- Tools For Self Reliance Cymru fits best if your work involves rural artisans, vocational training or women's and girls' community groups in Tanzania, since its donated tools, sewing machines and training are aimed there.
- Its register entry gives a worldwide focus, but the charity says it does not fund overseas projects outside Tanzania, so organisations working elsewhere should not apply.
- The published material gives no grants total and no grant range, so you cannot judge a realistic request size from it.
- No application process is published, so the sensible first step is to get in touch through the contact shown in the annual report or on its website.
Overview
Tools For Self Reliance Cymru is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1055483).
Tools For Self Reliance Cymru is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. It exists to relieve poverty in underdeveloped areas of the world by providing hand and other tools, equipment and training, and to educate the public in Wales about the causes and effects of that poverty. It began after one of its founders visited Tanzania and saw that local artisans lacked even the most basic tools. It now concentrates its efforts in Tanzania, where it works with its new partner, Kalwande Vocational Training Centre, and it has around 70 volunteers.
What they fund
Priority Areas
Tools For Self Reliance Cymru supports rural artisans and grassroots community groups in Tanzania by supplying donated hand tools and sewing machines, refurbished locally for distribution. It also funds practical skills training and workshop infrastructure, pairing equipment with instruction in tool use, repair and maintenance, business management and life skills. Its approach is to work with local training and community organisations, equipping groups and vocational training providers to create sustainable livelihoods and strengthen their communities. Its work includes support for women’s and girls’ community groups, including refuges, through sewing machines and training. The charity emphasises practical support that helps people build livelihoods for themselves, their families and their communities.
