The C.B. Dennis British Beekeepers' Research Trust was founded by a private benefactor, whose estate was bequeathed to it on his death. It exists to support research at institutions and by individuals, and to encourage young scientists, through grants for agreed projects and broader bee science that benefits bees and beekeeping in Britain. Priority Areas

It considers research on any bee species, as well as work not directly involving bees where there is a clear benefit to bees or beekeeping. Its examples include bee pathogens, pollination and broader ecological concepts. Support includes research or CASE studentships, small research projects, and travel bursaries for scientific conferences; travel grants also enable UK-based researchers to present work at national and international meetings. The Trust encourages young bee scientists with appropriate academic supervision and joint applications, and expects periodic progress reports and wide, timely dissemination of results.

Applicants complete the application forms and send them to the Honorary Secretary, preferably by email. The trustees consider grants at meetings in spring and autumn. Proposals involving fieldwork must allow six months between the submission deadline and the start of the fieldwork.

Deadlines: Research grant applications must be submitted by 1 March for the spring meeting and by 1 September for the autumn meeting.

Who can apply:

• Grants are available to Universities, research bodies or exceptionally to individuals; payment would normally be to the sponsoring institution.

• Individuals applying that are not associated with a research institution would need to demonstrate that they had the appropriate experience/ qualifications to ensure that funded work could be delivered to high academic standards.
