Key takeaways

  • QuIET's work fits best where a request concerns school-based education for young people, since education is its stated theme, its main activity is a school in the hills above Beirut, and Lebanon is its stated priority.
  • Its annual giving totals £112,225 across grants to institutions, and no grant range is stated, so a modest, specific request is a sensible starting point.
  • No application process is published, so the first step is to use the contact shown on its website to ask whether a request would be considered.
  • Organisations whose work falls outside education or outside its stated Lebanon priority may find that their request does not match its focus.

Overview

Quaker International Educational Trust (QuIET) is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1072250).

Quaker International Educational Trust (QuIET) exists to support education for young people within the Quaker ethos. It owns and oversees a school in the hills above Beirut, Brummana High School, which serves the needs of its 1,200+ pupils and their families. It also raises funds for Friends United Meeting in the United States, which owns and oversees Ramallah Friends School in Palestine. Quakers have supported the Lebanese school for the last 150 years through famine, wars, invasion, COVID, the Beirut port explosion and the collapse of the Lebanese lira.

What they fund

Priority Areas

QuIET supports education for young people within the Quaker ethos. Its work centres on owning and overseeing a school in the hills above Beirut, and it raises funds for that school and for a Quaker body that owns and oversees a school in Palestine. The school welcomes students of all faiths and opinions and from all backgrounds, and prepares young people to work together for a better country and more peaceful future. Its fundraising also supports financial aid for children whose parents could not otherwise have their children educated at the school. The foundation's stated work is therefore school-based education, including access to schooling for children facing financial barriers.
