Cecily's Fund
At a glance
Key takeaways
- Cecily's Fund works through Zambian partner organisations on education, health and community support for orphans and vulnerable children, so it fits best with work in Lusaka, Kitwe, Chingola, Luansobe or the Copperbelt Province, which its annual report names as priorities, and with groups that can deliver through local partners in Zambia.
- Its annual report shows £111,861 paid in its most recent financial year, but no grant range is stated, so check the report for the size of past awards before naming an amount.
- No application process is published in its annual report, register entry or website, so a short enquiry through the contact it shows is a sensible first step before a full proposal.
- Nothing published says how competitive it is or when it takes approaches, so ask about timing when you make contact.
Overview
Cecily's Fund is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (charity number 1071660).
Cecily's Fund is a charity registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, and it exists because all children have the right to education and a life free from poverty. It was named after a young woman who died in a road accident while volunteering in Zambia. Over the last 25 years, it says it has helped over 50,000 children and raised over £6million for its work with local implementing partners who deliver its programmes. Its programmes support children and young people both in and out of school to succeed and to prepare for a better future in adulthood.
What they fund
Priority Areas
Cecily's Fund works with Zambian partner organisations to support orphans and vulnerable children, many affected by HIV/AIDS, and their families and communities. It treats education as a route out of poverty: its programmes help children go to school and succeed there, prepare for life beyond school, and strengthen community support for children's education. The work also includes health and community support, training, business development and livelihoods for mothers and carers. It describes its approach as community-based and holistic, working with local partners on sustainable interventions that strengthen communities, improve livelihoods and lessen dependency. Its work is in Lusaka and the Copperbelt, including Kitwe, Chingola and Luansobe.
